Sustainable development. For several years, this term has been a guiding idea which is a building force improved by urgently worthwhile questions. More and more individuals, companies and organizations are accepting the practical necessity to overcome quantity-growth models.
Sustainability, in the sense of forward-looking: responsible development which also takes into consideration the interests of coming generations and unites different dimensions of any social demands. The goal is to utilize nature in an economical and efficient way, its raw materials and energy sources -soil, water, air and bio-sphere- so that, the present generations’ needs can be met without compromising the future generations’ ones. Sustained future development can only be achieved if economic, ecological and social aspects are integrated equally.
To achieve sustainable development, a myriad of interests must be consolidated, and tuned with sensitivity. For this reason, all parties, with their ideas, and their objectives must be recognized as being essentially equal.
Global
Sustainable Development Project responds to these challenges
through the concrete implementation of sustainable projects
with its partners on a local level.
Since 1998, GSDP has explored business opportunities in sustainable development. Projects like the GERLING sustainability strategy, European research on implementing Kyoto mechanisms and contributions from financial institutions, the active participation in the United Nations climate change working group, venture capital for the exploration of freshwater spring-fields under the sea, implementation of biogas in Vietnam, regional development on islands, insurance sector development in Northern Africa and research on innovation, sustainability and technological risks, are some examples of proven success.
In France, GSDP is a co-founder of AUXILIA in partnership with EDF, the French energy giant and some other stakeholders, assisting local authorities in Agenda 21 and developing methodologies for industrial ecology.
